Savvy Shields won the O’Connell’s Motors Fillies & Mares BM64 at Stony Creek on last Saturday for the year, for the second year running.
Last year she was successful with 57.5kgs, this year ridden by Clayton Douglas carrying 61kgs, she again was too strong for her opposition.
She sat off the leader, in a nice rhythm, she ranged up to challenge the leader at the 250m, took over the lead at the 100m mark, and held off all the challengers to win by just under half a length.
It was a good tough win after being unluckily beaten at her first up run at Seymour. She has found a consistent vain of form, and her fighting qualities are evident each run.
She will now find her way to metro grade after building a good record of 4 wins from 13 starts.
It was a fantastic way to end the year again, and a great kick start to 2019!
